Engaged!

It was the Vernal Equinox, March 20th 2010, the day of equal length day and night. The beginnings of Spring and the start of a new commitment to our Love. Little did she know that this left hand, the one blocking her face from the photo, would soon have a very special ring on it. A ring that not only signifies the significance of my commitment of marriage but also symbolizes the organic growth of two people who's lives have intertwined.

Even though the day did not go as planned, my intentions of creating a special memory for this important moment eventually came through as we revisited our plans the day after. And since the stressful parts and expectations were in the past, we were able to enjoy the moment more fully and express our true feelings for each other, surrounded by the beautiful natural setting of the Wissahickon Creek near Forbidden Drive. We even made our own little stone monument on the rock cliff on which I proposed, to mark our embarking on life as an engaged couple.

Valentine's Day 2010

Not even a boring work day on a Sunday could get in the way of our Valentine's Day celebration. We spaced the holiday over the entire weekend, which included ice skating at the Penn Ice Rink and dinner at our favorite local place the Side Car Bar. We ate special Naked chocolates and watched movies on our couch, and I couldn't have asked for more. I even have a certificate for a massage which I am very excited to redeem soon! Every day is like Valentine's for us, but I'm glad you taught me that honoring the little things with small tokens of appreciation can really go a long way to remind each other how special we are. Thank's for helping me understand that.

End of the Summer

What an incredible summer together! We did just about everything we wanted to do and then some. So many great memories and firsts, with pictures along the way. I can not wait to do it all over again next summer!

Two more days until we leave for California! We have been dreaming of this vacation since May when we officially found out your brother was getting married. This is our first vacation together and I can't think of another person I would want to spend five days getting lost in the redwoods with. I can't wait to meet your brother and see your family again! This will be our first wedding together too! I love that I have had and am having lots of first times with you! Yee-ha!

Wissahickon Adventure

Are these chantrelle mushrooms? They certainly looked like baby versions of them, still wet with slime. They were only a few hours old at this point when we photographed them. We found them on a weekend hike along a path on the Wissahickon, after a nice bike ride on West River Drive. We found a nice rock to sun ourselves on as the cool muddy water surged by, somewhat elevated from the rains the day before.

We treated ourselves to a lovely dinner at Meritage that left us in near ecstasy. So good that we will have to go back again soon.

Summer Fun

We have been taking little trips and visiting friends this Summer and enjoying the warm weather together. You got to see the Art Center twice, but we still need a day time trip to really explore the grounds. We also went to Whaleyville MD for a picnic BBQ and got to see some fireworks. I want to keep on going on adventures with you forever!

Georgetown 4th of July

We spent our 4th of July weekend together in Georgetown at your parents house in the woods. But first we had to get there, which involved my visit visit to your house in the burbs, even if it was only the sidewalk view. Then a quick dinner at your local irish pub and a three hour drive we were almost there.

After finding the hidden driveway and getting the electric turned on, we had just enough energy to climb into bed with the crickets and tree frogs singing for us all night.

Even though it was crowded we found the perfect parking spot outside Dogfish Head Brewery and spend the day on the beach with a guitar and some Dale's Pale Ale. There was even a diner stop at Outback Steak House, my first time there.

And even though I beat you at chess and captured an enormous spider you still cuddled up to me for a movie to fall asleep to. And I even got a chance to catch one of my lizard friends the next morning.

Our perfect get away ended with a delicious brunch at The Brick Hotel before braving the shore traffic on our way home.

And if that all wasn't enough, we were greeted to a roof deck picnic party in the sun once back home, with all the left overs. It was a truly a weekend I'll never forget.

This is the first time since we met that we have been in two different states. You are at the farm setting up their computer infrastructure and I am here missing you. You left yesterday at 11 am and already it feels like a month since you have been gone. It is very comforting knowing you will be back tomorrow and that I will be no more than 45 minutes away from you. Please come home safe. I love you!

Brandywine River

We took an adventure out on the Brandywine River trail to find a nice place to enjoy. After pickig the longest blades of grass as our prizes, we found our way through the stinging nettles to a secluded spot. Although the waters were deep and fast we forded the river and took the shaded bank for a moment together in nature. Skipping stones, watching birds against the clouds while strumming our guitar. We were one with nature and love in our adventure together.

Vacation Plans

It is almost time for our first vacation together! We will be in San Mateo for my brother's wedding, and then we will take a trip up to the Redwood National State Parks. We can camp and hike around the Old-Growth forrest in search for Hyperion, Del Norte Titan and Lost Monarch, which are the tallest and largest living trees in the world.

This past weekend we went looking at houses. I wanted us to practice going and looking at homes and also to get a feel for what we both like and want in a space. We looked at the two places on Stafford St. in Germantown with Zeta and of course I fell in love with the first house we saw. The back kitchen entrance to the second floor was what I liked best along with the antique door hinges and the possible hot tub use in the back yard. I know you loved it too and I could picture us using one of the 6 bedrooms as our music space. We stepped next door to look at the charming Victorian single with possible rental unit. I think we got pretty lucky on this day to see two houses that were both possibilities at some point. Then we ventured out with Zeta to "the House" where we both fell in love with what we could see. I don't want to describe exactly what went down there as I am putting loving thoughts toward the possibility of having our own wilderness in the city. thanks for looking with me. i love you!

What better way to celebrate your fourth birthday than to roll around upside down in an inflatable plastic donut? If blowing out the candles seems hard wait till you try blowing up the inflatable toy. But once it was blown up the kids could not get enough upside down rolling action. We visited my Mom for the last time before she moves away from Shamong. We took my sister out for a hike around the lake and went on our own little adventure too. I sure will miss that place; the pool and the basketball court, bbqs on the patio, playing fetch with the dog and swinging with my sister. I'm glad we got to share some of it together so you can remember it with me.

We like to go on adventures and now that the weather is getting warmer we are getting more adventurous. We headed to Ridley Creek State Park where I showed you a romantic setting and we explored the inner rooms of the mansion and our hearts. We took the white trail, then bushwacked finding our own path together. Along the way we spotted a mole and four deer. Upon entering a shell of a house "honey, it's a fixer upper" I got scared by a moving black blur. After investigation, we found a mama turkey vulture keeping her egg baby warm. I remarked at how big the egg was despite of the vulture's size. I had so much fun with you that day realizing where I go you would follow and vice versa. Last Sunday we hopped on our bikes and headed to east falls for a margarita, you ordered yours on the rocks and i ordered mine, frozen, on the rocks with ice haha! the clouds started rolling in as we set off, then like my drink the sky opened up with hail the size of gumballs and man did they hurt. we stopped for a minute under a bridge but being the daring heart sleeved adventurers that we are, we decided to just go for it. In life and in love, I always want to go for it with you as my partner.

did you ever feel like you need to dive deep below the surface of things to get to the treasure? i feel like this is what our winter has been like so far for me. i am diving in and going deeper to explore what lies beneath the surface. sometimes swimming away from the shallows, i get lost in an undercurrent of thoughts and then end up almost drowning...thank god i have you to throw me a life preserver!

thanks for listening and supporting my thoughts and feelings this past valentine's day. i think the expectations and pressures of holiday's like these (christmas especially) make me a little sad. as little girls hallmark and tiffany's tells us to expect chocolate and roses, fancy gifts and jewels on this day. i have always thought it was better to tell someone you love them everyday, instead of waiting to show it on a just one day. which is what you do for me. not a day has gone by that you don't tell me you love me.

i am sorry i was emotional, i am chalking a lot of it up to fake hormones racing through my body...i am sorry that i didn't accept your hard drive gift. i don't want you to spend your money on me..but, i do appreciate the thoughtfulness behind it, and that is what i took from the gesture.

all i ever want from you is to know that you think i am special and i am not sure any material item could ever give me that. so thank you for your love.

Valentine's Day 2009

It was our first Valentine's Day together and it was one to remember. We met in the afternoon and started our day as you untangled me from my computer project. I had added a 1TB RAID1 setup consisting of two 1TB Samsung drives to my home file server. Even though it was geeky and fun it was no match for the attraction I have for you.

We exchanged gifts, and you loved your chocolates and iPod car charger dock. You didn't want the hard drive though, which is ok. I have plenty of use for it, but I wanted to protect your data from loss. Then I opened my gifts; a black dress shirt that fit just right, and a vest that was a little too tight. THere was also love candy filled with expletives, a book of love lists, and a home made card that warmed my heart. We had a quick bedroom celebration, and since you love your man in black, so I wore my new shirt and took you out for some Side Car lunch.

While there we ate and drew like we always do but you seemed a little sad. So I tried to get you to open up and once you did we had a nice talk and shared our feelings and concerns. You cheered up a little and we finished our drinks and drawings before heading home to have a barbeque with the dudes and their dates.

The rest of the weekend was lovely too, we went back to Apamate for an awesome brunch. We got domestic at Target and bought new pillows and a mattress cushion to sleep on. Watched Dodgeball the movie with super jumbo pizza with friends, and cuddled the night away. It was the perfect Valentine's Day weekend.

today you came with me to look at a "place of my own" in the city.
the apartment is tiny with a lofted bedroom and brand new kitchen appliances.
the washing machine is also a drying machine and the tub seems big enough for two, now if we could only find a couch! it was fun when we imagined walking over to wholefoods in order to shop for some groceries to make, and headed to sabrina's to see if it would pass for our weekend brunch spot... having you there with me and introducing you as my boyfriend makes me feel lit up inside (like this house pictured) it feels wonderful to know that some day we will be living together and that you will be the last person i see at night and the first person i see when i wake in the morning!

this weekend was indeed a good time. . . i am often pleasantly surprised how we can turn the mundane into an adventure...it seems that breakfast has become our favorite meal together as well as our time to create images of every kind in our sketchbook, we really could draw pictures all day.

i had so much fun taking charge in the bedroom : ) and i was again pleasantly surprised at how well we work together. i hope you like the setup and please know that i am here if you want to keep changing it up...we will never be boring!

one of my favorite memories of this past weekend was running (from the sharp toothed caged munchkins of my imagination) to escape the cold. i sure do love having fun with you!

The Day After a Most Excellent Weekend

What a relaxing yet productive weekend!

It started when you came to visit me Friday night after massage class and were able to let yourself in with your new keys to the Dude Ranch. I was so delighted to see you there on my couch waiting for me.

Saturday we had brunch pretty early at the Side Car with Matt, and he told you all about his job while we marveled at the coolness of Arm's camouflage football uniforms.

On Sunday you helped me rearrange and organize in my bedroom which now feels twice as big and much less cluttered. Thank you again soooo much! We also made some really beautiful art while having brunch at P&K. Can't wait to add those to the inspiration sketchbook...

SBN Party at Phila Brewing Co.

Someone I know loves cute piggies, especially huge metal ones full of yummy beer at Philadelphia Brewing Company. We were there last night for the SBN holiday party where we had delicious locally produced organic food and festive beer. Although Kensinger was our favorite we got to try Philiz Navidad which is a new seasonal black lager only available on tap at select locations.

It was a wonderful night of friends and music, and we even got your iPod car hookup working so that you can rock out and enjoy the love bug even more. We need to go to another event with name tags so I can remember to keep mine this time for our bedroom collection.

Looks like we are going to have some time to hang out with the Dudes. Louis and Matt are featured in the film Hooked which is screening tonight as part of the First Person Arts Festival. We can all bond like you have been wanting to do ever since Hallopalooza.

Since you do not have work in the morning on Friday, Thursday night has become our new Friday night! This works for me because I get to see you one day earlier than the weekend. I don't even care if I feel like hell the next day, I just want to spend every second I can next to you, because that is how crazy in love I am with you!

so last saturday we managed to climb up to your rooftop, our plan was to nap underneath the sunset but as soon as we spread out the cobalt blue sleeping bag (after much ado about a zipper)
we found ourselves in our usual spoon and couldn't keep our hands or lips off eachother. i remember feeling like i was on top of the city, the view so breathtaking.... philadelphia looked okay too.
i imagined setting up a little hammock so that we could sleep under the stars, and perhaps a screen of plants to hide us from your peeping tom neighbors.

Sketchbook Time

We have been making it a habit to bring a sketchbook with us to breakfast. We have written some great song lyrics and even collaborated on free form drawings. We even tried to do one completely left handed which was difficult but fun. I love how playful you can be and that you encourage me to create things regardless of where we may be.

Monkfish at Snackbar

One of our favorite places to meet is turning out to be Snackbar, which we visited last Thursday. I had the monkfish (pictured) and you blew my mind by eating a beef burger. You finished the whole thing sans bun, and even tried a piece of my monkfish despite hating the texture. I was impressed at your bravery and flexibleness in diet. Remember our first Snackbar date, where we sat in our very own love shack?

Apamate Jeans

Last Sunday was my first time at Cafe Apamate. We shared delicious yogurt with strawberry and blueberry granola and Asturian honey. You had stewed green and yellow squash, onions, garlic, tomatoes & eggplant served over toasted bread & topped with a poached egg. And I had two eggs scrambled with chorizo or bacon served with patatas bravas and spicy aioli sauce. I think I like this place better than Ants Pants, but don't tell Steven this. He loves Ants Pants, but it s always so crowded.

Speaking of Pants, there was a pair of them on the sidewalk outside of Cafe Apamate. We both thought they looked funny there but boy was I surprised when you took my joke about spooning them literally. I'm glad I took this picture because it turned out pretty good. You are the perfect model and muse!

Contributing Music

The Box account for ArcherFish is set up and live. Box is what powers the music widgets now seen in the sidebar of all pages. The widget is essentially just a folder on our Box account called "music". Any mp3 added to that folder show up in the music player widget.

We can use box to host all sorts of files, but for now its the music storage place. You can login with our same email address and password for the rest of the site.

Testing Blogger integration: Success!

In order to collaborate, I had to set up a Blogger account. This required a Google account so I created an ArcherFish user there first. Now I am taking advantage of a very slick RapidWeaver plugin called RapidBlog. It allows me to synchronize the Blogger blog with RapidWeaver, so we can publish from either interface and automatically see the changes.

Basically all you need to do now is log into Blogger to create and edit posts. All that you need is an internet connection. I think there is even a way to send an email to your Blogger account to magically create a blog posting from your email body. Neat stuff and pretty painless.

Of course we can sit down and go over all the technical mumbo jumbo till it makes sense. But now we have our very own blog that can do just about anything!

Tyler School of Art's new home

Tyler School of Art is poised to create a major cultural shift at Temple University. Soon, the premier art school in the region will make its home in one of the nation's largest urban art centers. The presence of Tyler students and faculty in Philadelphia will enrich the residential student population and college atmosphere already blossoming on Temple University's Main Campus.

Unification of School
Currently, the core Tyler curriculum is divided between two campuses, with 60% of enrolled Tyler students already attending classes on Temple Main Campus. All academic units will be united on one campus when fine arts and graphic design join art history, architecture, art, and art education on Main Campus.

Increased Space
The new building will offer 40% more usable square footage than the Elkins Park facilities. At the same time, Tyler will maintain its intimate size through a highly selective recruitment process. Faculty and student artists will realize their potential in expanded, more contemporary spaces, affirming Tyler’s position as a
preeminent art school.

Exhibitions and Galleries
Space for presentation of exhibitions and artistic programs will increase to over 8,000 square feet, providing facilities to prepare and show forms of art in all media. The galleries will be featured on the ground floor to invite participation from the campus and surrounding communities.

Academic Spaces
The new facility will include 160,000 square feet of teaching and learning space, providing students and faculty with top-quality studios and classrooms. The building will also include spaces for innovative large-scale and installation pieces and access to new methods for materials handling and ventilation.

The Future of Tyler
Tyler will be at the center of a vibrant urban creative community, rich with opportunities for inspiration, exhibition, collaboration and cross-disciplinary connection. The new facility and the new location will help Tyler to compete more strongly for faculty, students, and national recognition against other top ranked schools of art.

Designed by architect Carlos Jimenez of Carlos Jimenez Studio in Houston, in collaboration with the Philadelphia based architecture firm, H2L2, the new building at 12th and Norris Streets will offer 40 percent more space than the School’s current facilities. Tyler students will have space to create large-scale works, access to state-of-the-art technology and greater ease in getting to museums and exhibitions. The construction of its new $75 million building on the University’s Main Campus will have a positive impact on every aspect of Tyler’s mission and operation. Tyler has received $61.5 million in support for the new building from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and $7.1 million in revenues from a University bond issue. This means that each new gift to the facility is strongly leveraged, building on the commitments of the Commonwealth and University.
